Taranto steel unions call nationwide strike for October 12
Original: taranto
Steelworkers' unions FIM, FIOM and UILM have called a mobilisation and strike for October 12 across all plants in the former Ilva network, with Taranto at the centre. Workers are protesting over the future of the steelworks, as savings linked to new industrial plans are reportedly being redirected toward further works at the Taranto facilities. The action comes amid continued uncertainty over the plant's ownership and environmental remediation.
Why now: Ongoing uncertainty over the future of the former Ilva steelworks in Taranto has prompted a union strike announcement.
