EU drops sponsorship of disinformation conference after Trump officials object
Original: EU drops sponsorship of disinformation conference at Trump officials’ request
The European Union has withdrawn its sponsorship of a major disinformation conference after Trump administration officials pressed it to do so. Lithuania and Canada were also reportedly pressured to pull out, and days before #Disinfo2026 the sponsors' logos were removed from the conference website. Critics see the move as a concession to Washington that could weaken international cooperation against disinformation.
Why now: The withdrawal just before the conference signals a shift in Western governments' stance on disinformation work under pressure from the Trump administration.
