Journalist Andrea Ropero paid an on-air tribute on 'El Intermedio' to Maricarmen, an elderly woman who died this Wednesday shortly after her eviction. Ropero had spent time with her in the hours before and during the eviction, and closed her farewell with three sentences, a photograph and a personal plea. Spanish social media users are sharing the tribute, with many highlighting the injustice of the eviction and the close bond between the reporter and the pensioner.
Why now: Maricarmen's death shortly after a widely reported eviction has moved the Spanish public, and the presenter's personal connection to her story struck a chord.
