European rivers improving but off track for 2030 goals
Original: European rivers are improving, but not fast enough to meet 2030 goals https:// phys.org/news/2026-09-european -rivers-fa
A new report finds that Europe's rivers are showing measurable signs of recovery, with water quality and habitats improving in many regions. However, the pace of progress remains too slow to meet the European Union's 2030 biodiversity and freshwater restoration targets. Environmental groups say stronger enforcement and faster action are needed to close the gap.
Why now: Renewed attention on EU environmental targets as reports show progress is lagging behind the 2030 deadline.
