Kansas governor, union leader denounce ICE raids in southwest Kansas
Original: ‘Wanton abuse of power’: Kelly, union leader criticize southwest Kansas ICE raids, seek reform
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and a union leader have sharply criticized recent ICE enforcement raids across southwest Kansas, calling them a 'wanton abuse of power' and demanding reform of federal immigration enforcement. They argue the operations are disrupting communities, workplaces and families in the largely agricultural and meatpacking region, and are pressing for changes to how immigration raids are carried out.
Why now: Fresh ICE raids in southwest Kansas have drawn high-profile political and labor criticism, putting immigration enforcement back in the state spotlight.
