Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra comes with built-in magnetic USB-C charging, combining the convenience of a MagSafe-style snap-on connector with the universal USB-C standard. The feature means the cable detaches safely if someone trips over it, protecting the laptop from being pulled off a desk. Tech observers see it as a notable hardware design choice, since few Windows laptop makers have added magnetic charging to USB-C ports.
Why now: Magnetic USB-C charging is a rare and eye-catching hardware feature that echoes Apple's popular MagSafe design
