Perplexity open sources its ColBERT-style search models under MIT
Original: Perplexity open sources its ColBERT style search models under MIT license
AI search company Perplexity has released its ColBERT-style search models as open source under the MIT license, making the retrieval technology freely available for anyone to use, modify, and commercialize. The move gives developers access to search infrastructure typically kept proprietary, and is being read as a contribution to the open-source AI ecosystem and a challenge to closed rivals.
Why now: Open-sourcing commercially valuable search models under a permissive license is a notable shift that matters to developers and the AI industry.
