Accessible Android Emulator 0.5.0 has been released. The update introduces a new speech bridge so that a device's screen reader output is sent to the host computer's text-to-speech, using VoiceOver's voice and rate on Mac, NVDA or SAPI on Windows, or the phone's own text-to-speech in AAE Remote. The release also adds microphone input and other improvements. It is aimed at making Android usable for blind and low-vision users on desktop machines.
Why now: The new release offers a meaningful accessibility improvement by letting blind users hear Android screen reader output through their preferred desktop speech engine.
