Original: Barn owls, bees, puffins and hedgehogs to feature on UK banknotes
The Bank of England has announced that barn owls, bees, puffins and hedgehogs will appear on its next series of banknotes, marking a shift from the monarch's portrait to British wildlife. The choice is drawing attention for celebrating nature on everyday currency and for questions about how the designs will look alongside the King's effigy.
Why now: It is a fresh announcement from the Bank of England about new banknote designs, and people are reacting to the unusual move of putting animals on UK currency.
