Original: 8 Texas State Board of Education seats up in midterm election
Eight of the fifteen seats on the Texas State Board of Education are up for election in the upcoming midterm elections. The board sets curriculum standards and approves textbooks for the state's public schools, so outcomes could shape how subjects like science, history and health are taught for millions of students. Voters across several districts will decide the contests.
Why now: Board elections draw attention because the body decides what Texas public school students are taught, with national implications for textbook content.
