Ex-Tottenham defender Ramon Vega to challenge Infantino for FIFA presidency

Original: Ramon Vega: Ex-Tottenham defender says he will run against Gianni Infantino for FIFA presidency https://www.nytimes.com/

Ramon Vega, the former Switzerland and Tottenham Hotspur defender, says he will run against Gianni Infantino for the FIFA presidency. Vega, who has been critical of FIFA's leadership, is positioning himself as a reform-minded alternative to the long-serving incumbent. The challenge comes as Infantino's tenure continues to draw scrutiny over expanded World Cup plans and the organisation's governance.

Why now: News just broke that a former player is mounting an outsider challenge to FIFA's powerful incumbent president.
