Original: Casita Manga Book Club: Ōoku: The Inner Chambers
The Brooklyn Museum is hosting its Casita Manga Book Club for a discussion of Ōoku: The Inner Chambers, Fumi Yoshinaga's acclaimed alternate-history manga set in an Edo-period Japan where women rule and men populate the shogun's harem. Readers are gathering to talk through the series' gender-swapped politics, historical detail and slow-burn drama.
Why now: The museum book club meeting is giving manga readers a timely occasion to discuss a widely praised series recently adapted into a Netflix series.
