UN Climate Chief: 1.5°C Limit Vital for Island Nations
Original: # IslandNations UN Climate Chief Says 1.5°C Limit Essential for Island Nations https://www. miragenews.com/un-climate-ch
The UN's top climate official has declared that keeping global warming to the 1.5°C limit is essential for the survival of island nations, which face existential threats from rising seas and intensifying storms. The remarks underscore growing pressure on major emitters to strengthen climate pledges, with campaigners highlighting the disproportionate risks small island developing states bear from climate change.
Why now: Ongoing climate negotiations and rising concern over existential sea-level threats to island states keep the 1.5°C target in focus.
