EU drops sponsorship of disinformation conference after Trump officials object
Original: # EU drops sponsorship of # disinformation conference at # Trump officials’ request 🖊️ Aisha Down in London, Joseph Gede
The European Union has withdrawn its sponsorship of an upcoming conference on disinformation after requests from Trump administration officials, according to reporting by Aisha Down, Joseph Gedeon and Jennifer Rankin. Lithuania and Canada were also pressured to pull out, and logos of sponsors were removed days before the Disinfo2026 event was due to take place. Critics see the move as capitulation to foreign political pressure over disinformation policy.
Why now: The reported decision signals a shift in EU-US relations and raises concerns about political interference in disinformation policy.
