St. John the Evangelist Church venerates Bishop Fulton Sheen's relics
Original: St. John the Evangelist Church venerates Bishop Fulton Sheen’s relics
St. John the Evangelist Church held a veneration of relics belonging to Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, the famed American Catholic bishop, broadcaster and author originally from the Peoria, Illinois area. Parishioners were able to pray before the relics, a practice Catholics use to honor saints and candidates for sainthood. Sheen, who died in 1979 and was declared Venerable in 2012, remains a widely admired figure, and local faithful turned out to take part in the devotion.
Why now: Devotions to Fulton Sheen draw attention among Catholics because of his ongoing sainthood cause and enduring popularity.
