Original: Ramon Vega: Ex-Tottenham star confirms plan to challenge Gianni Infantino in FIFA presidential election https://www.stan
Former Tottenham and Switzerland defender Ramon Vega has confirmed he plans to run against Gianni Infantino in the FIFA presidential election. Vega, who went into finance after retiring from football, is positioning himself as a challenger to the incumbent, who has led world football's governing body since 2016. The announcement has drawn attention given Infantino's grip on the role and the lack of serious rivals so far.
Why now: A credible-sounding challenger emerging against a long-entrenched FIFA president is rare and newsworthy in football.
