The US Army has set a date for the first military execution by firing squad since 1945, according to a New York Times report. The case is linked to the Fort Hood shooting, and the announcement revives debate over capital punishment in the military justice system and the use of firing squads.
Why now: It would be the first US military firing-squad execution in eight decades, a striking and controversial milestone.
