Ex-Tottenham defender Ramon Vega to challenge Infantino for FIFA presidency

Original: tottenham

Ramon Vega, the former Tottenham and Switzerland defender, says he will run against Gianni Infantino in the election for the FIFA presidency. The announcement, reported by The Athletic and the New York Times, has drawn attention in Britain, where Vega is best known for his spell at Tottenham in the late 1990s. Challenger bids against Infantino, who has led FIFA since 2016, are rare and tend to attract wide coverage.

Why now: A former Tottenham player launching a long-shot challenge to the incumbent FIFA president is unexpected news in the football world.
