Seoul Mayor Open to Co-Hosting 2036 Olympics With Jeonbuk

Seoul's mayor has signaled openness to co-hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics together with North Jeonbuk Province, rather than pursuing the Games for the capital alone. The comments touch on a long-running debate in South Korea over how to stage a future Olympics, with regional cities seeking a share of the investment and national attention such an event would bring.

Why now: The mayor's remarks reopen South Korea's internal debate over where and how to bid for the 2036 Games.
