WAM Theatre stages 'Camp Siegfried' in the Berkshires
Original: WAM Theatre’s “Camp Siegfried” offers a chilling look at fascism’s allure in 1938 America
WAM Theatre has opened a production of Bess Wohl's play 'Camp Siegfried' in the Berkshires, drawing attention for its portrayal of a 1938 Nazi summer camp on Long Island and the seduction of fascist ideology among ordinary Americans. Reviewers describe the drama as a chilling, timely look at how extremism took root through romance and community. The production is prompting discussion about parallels between that era and the present.
Why now: A new stage production about pro-Nazi activity in pre-war America resonates with current concerns about rising extremism.
