Nostalgia grows for hand-crushing aluminum cans for recycling

Original: Does anyone remember stomping on aluminum soda/beer cans for recycling, or using one of those wall-mounted can crushers

People are recalling the days when households flattened aluminum soda and beer cans by stomping on them or using wall-mounted can crushers before recycling. One poster notes their household does not drink soda or beer and wonders whether the practice still exists. The exchange has prompted shared memories of home recycling habits that largely faded as curbside collection and single-stream programs spread.

Why now: It taps into nostalgia for older recycling routines and curiosity about whether they survive today.

Evidence

• Does anyone remember stomping on aluminum soda/beer cans for recycling, or using one of those wall-mounted can crushers for the same purpose? We don't drink soda or beer, so I have no idea if this is still a thing. # Recycling ♻️ # Environment · DrOinOR · 4
