A new survey by Heatmap Pro of public records and financial information finds that data center project cancellations have topped $260 billion in 2026. The analysis suggests local opposition has cost developers far more than previously understood, as community pushback against new facilities continues to escalate across the industry.
Why now: Local opposition to data center construction is increasingly disrupting billion-dollar projects, drawing fresh attention to the industry's mounting losses.
