Readers debate old-fashioned German expressions in writing
Original: # PhantastikPrompts 8. Frappant, blümerant und andere famose Worte: Wie hältst du es mit älteren Sprachblüten und würdes
A writing prompt circulating under the tag PhantastikPrompts asks participants how they feel about older German expressions such as 'frappant' and 'blümerant' and whether they would happily use them in their own prose. One contributor answers that her style is spare and robust rather than flowery, which she says makes ornate, archaic vocabulary a struggle, particularly in fantasy writing.
Why now: A community writing prompt is inviting authors to reflect on archaic vocabulary in their prose.
