Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan inspected a military division in Kassala, a state near the Ethiopian and Eritrean borders. The visit comes as Sudan's army remains locked in conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, drawing attention to border security and relations with neighbouring Eritrea and Ethiopia. Sudanese and regional observers are watching his movements closely.
Why now: Ongoing Sudan conflict and heightened attention to al-Burhan's military and diplomatic activity near sensitive borders.
