Formula 1 tire strategy: AI sped up the math, not the call
Original: The Formula 1 tire call got 20x faster. The engineer making it is still there. AI took the calculation. It did not take
In Formula 1, AI-driven tools have made tire strategy calculations roughly 20 times faster, but the race engineer still makes the final call on when to switch tires. The story is being shared as a pointed example of AI augmenting human judgment rather than replacing it — a workplace dynamic, the argument goes, that executive surveys on productivity gains tend to miss entirely.
Why now: It offers a concrete counterexample to fears of AI replacing workers, showing automation speeding up calculations while humans keep decision-making authority.

Evidence
- The Formula 1 tire call got 20x faster. The engineer making it is still there. AI took the calculation. It did not take the call. That is one of the most useful shapes AI can take at work, and a survey of executives about productivity gains will never see it. https://… · aifueledculture.wordpress.com@aifueledculture.wordpress.com · 6
