The UK government has quietly abandoned a plan to prepare the English countryside for wildfires, according to a Guardian report. The disclosure is drawing criticism from environmental commentators, who argue the decision leaves England exposed as wildfire risk grows with hotter, drier conditions and increasing instances of fires on moorland and farmland.
Why now: Concern that England is unprepared for rising wildfire risk after the plan's quiet cancellation was revealed.
