Visitor notes sparse white attendance at Cape Town Carnival

Original: Cape Town Carnival. It was an interesting day walking around the Carnival. Not many White, as in race not colour here ha

A visitor's account of the Cape Town Carnival describes a lively street event but remarks on the low number of white South Africans in the crowd, saying he counted only a handful who were not police or security staff. The observation has sparked comment about how the carnival's attendance reflects the city's racial demographics and ongoing debates about social integration in Cape Town.

Why now: Remarks about race and attendance at a major public event tend to draw attention and debate about segregation in Cape Town.
