Original: মহালয়া

The Alipore weather office has issued an alert forecasting rain and gusty winds across Kolkata and three other districts of south Bengal until afternoon on Mahalaya, the day marking the start of Durga Puja festivities. The forecast comes as devotees prepare for the ritualistic offerings of the day, and many are worried the rain could disrupt outdoor celebrations and pandal visits planned for the start of Puja week.

Why now: People are checking whether rain will disrupt Mahalaya rituals and the start of Durga Puja celebrations in West Bengal.
