A Sarracenia leucophylla pitcher has been found with a hole chewed through its side, most likely by a wasp that fell in and escaped. Wasps are a favorite prey of Sarracenia species, but trapped individuals can sometimes gnaw their way free. The damage does not seriously harm the plant, which continues trapping insects normally.
Why now: Nature observers find the dramatic image of prey escaping a carnivorous plant by chewing through it fascinating.
