Robert Ménard defends exchange with schoolboy during Béziers protests
Original: robert ménard
Robert Ménard, the mayor of Béziers, has spoken out about a tense exchange with a teenager during student protests against school reforms in the southern French city. He explained his familiar tone by saying nobody addresses him informally, a remark that has drawn criticism and debate in France over how elected officials interact with young protesters.
Why now: His comments about the clash with a lycée student during recent youth mobilisations are sparking fresh criticism of the controversial mayor.
