Central Asians who migrated to Russia for work are appealing for help after finding themselves enrolled in the Russian military, according to reporting by The Times of Central Asia. The story raises questions over how labour migrants are recruited into the armed forces during the war in Ukraine, and over the legal and social consequences they could face if they return home.
Why now: New reporting spotlights the vulnerability of labour migrants being drawn into Russia's war effort.
