Tim Ballard says LDS Church excommunicated him to hide abuse
Original: Anti-trafficking activist Tim Ballard says LDS Church ‘excommunicated’ him to hide child abuse in the faith
Anti-trafficking activist Tim Ballard claims the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints excommunicated him as part of an effort to conceal child abuse within the faith. Ballard, once celebrated for his rescue work and the inspiration for the film Sound of Freedom, has faced separate misconduct allegations, and his public accusation against the church is drawing wide attention to the rift.
Why now: The dramatic clash between a once-celebrated LDS-linked activist and his church has sparked new scrutiny of both his misconduct allegations and the institution's handling of abuse claims.
