South Korea is recalling its ambassador to Ukraine amid a dispute over North Korean prisoners of war. The move follows disagreement over how captured North Korean soldiers fighting for Russia should be handled, including questions about their repatriation. The recall marks a significant diplomatic rift between Seoul and Kyiv, two countries that have otherwise cooperated on issues stemming from the war in Ukraine.
Why now: A rare diplomatic rupture between South Korea and Ukraine over the fate of North Korean POWs has drawn wide attention.
