Judge orders Trump administration to return gay immigrant imprisoned in Africa
Original: How was this not a form of political violence? Federal judge orders Republican Trump admin to bring gay immigrant impris
A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to bring back to the United States a gay immigrant who was deported and imprisoned in Africa. Critics are calling the episode a form of political violence, arguing the man was effectively exiled because of his sexual orientation. The case has intensified scrutiny of the administration's treatment of LGBTQ immigrants and its handling of deportation orders from federal courts.
Why now: A federal court ruling against the Trump administration over the deportation and imprisonment of a gay immigrant is drawing fresh outrage about LGBTQ rights and compliance with judicial orders.
