Ethiopia carried out a drone attack against Eritrean troops that had crossed into the Tigray region, according to reporting in the Guardian. The strike marks a serious escalation between the two countries, whose forces were previously aligned during the Tigray conflict. Details on casualties remain unclear, but the incident is raising fears of renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia.
Why now: A direct Ethiopian military strike on Eritrean forces signals a dangerous new escalation between two formerly allied governments.
