Vance suspends Microsoft and others from green card pathway
Original: Vance suspends Microsoft, others from foreign workers applying for green cards, alleges visa 'abuse'
US Vice President JD Vance has suspended Microsoft and other companies from sponsoring foreign workers for green cards, accusing them of abusing the visa system. The move pauses some employers' ability to put foreign staff on the path to permanent residency while officials review hiring practices, and has drawn attention from business and immigration groups.
Why now: The announcement affects major employers' ability to retain skilled foreign workers and signals a tougher immigration stance.
