Trump Administration Seeks to Skip Review for Arctic Oil and Gas Drilling
Original: Trump Administration Seeks to Exempt Oil and Gas Exploration in the Western Arctic from Environmental Review and Public Comment
The Trump Administration is moving to exempt oil and gas exploration in the Western Arctic from environmental review and public comment, removing standard checks before drilling activity begins in the region. Conservation groups, including Earthjustice, are sounding the alarm, arguing the move sidesteps public oversight and threatens a fragile Arctic landscape. The proposal is expected to draw legal challenges from environmental organisations.
Why now: The move to bypass environmental review for drilling in the Western Arctic is controversial and draws opposition from conservation groups.
