California Faculty Union Pushes Counselor-Led Campus Safety
Original: Reimagining Campus Safety by Uplifting Counselor Faculty
The California Faculty Association is calling for campus safety to be reimagined by elevating the role of counselor faculty across the California State University system. The union argues that mental health counselors, not police, should be central to student wellbeing and safety on campuses. The proposal has drawn attention as universities nationally debate how to reduce reliance on campus police and expand mental health support for students.
Why now: Universities are rethinking campus safety and mental health support, making counselor staffing a timely debate.
