Did a US destroyer suffer a blackout incident facing China's navy?

Original: zerstörer

Reports and commentary are circulating about an alleged blackout aboard a United States Navy destroyer during an encounter with Chinese naval forces at sea. A German precious-metals outlet amplified the story under the heading 'Blamierte sich ein US-Zerstörer vor Chinas Navy?', questioning whether the American ship was embarrassed in front of China's navy. The claims are unverified and details of the incident remain thin.

Why now: Tensions between the US and Chinese navies make any reported American embarrassment at sea a talking point.
