Pete Hegseth's AI-Driven Military Push Raises Oversight Concerns

Original: Pete Hegseth's Military of the Future: Defined by AI and Utter Lack of Oversight

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is pushing the US military toward an AI-centered future built on drones and autonomous systems, a report argues with little meaningful oversight of how these weapons are developed and used. Critics warn the combination of rapidly expanding automation and weak accountability could change how America wages war, with life-and-death decisions increasingly delegated to machines and contractors rather than subject to public or congressional scrutiny.

Why now: A new report on Hegseth's automation agenda is drawing attention amid broader debate over AI weapons and military accountability.
