Ukraine's cities left exposed amid air defence shortages
Original: COMMENTARY: Amid frontline advances, Ukraine’s cities face up to lack of air defence
Ukraine is pressing Western partners for more air defence systems as Russian strikes continue to hit cities far from the front line. Commentators note that even as Kyiv's forces make frontline advances, urban centres remain vulnerable to missile and drone attacks because interceptors and batteries are in short supply, forcing officials to prioritise which sites to protect.
Why now: Russian air strikes on Ukrainian cities are continuing while Ukraine's forces advance, highlighting the gap between battlefield gains and civilian air protection.
