Jamaica hosts first Caribbean staging of OPANAL nuclear disarmament course
Jamaica is hosting the first-ever Caribbean staging of a nuclear disarmament course run by OPANAL, the agency overseeing the Treaty of Tlatelolco, which keeps Latin America and the Caribbean a nuclear-weapon-free zone. The course brings regional participants together for training on disarmament and non-proliferation, underlining the region's long-standing commitment to keeping nuclear weapons out of the Americas.
Why now: It marks the first time this OPANAL disarmament training has been held in the Caribbean, a regional first for nuclear disarmament efforts.
