David Jolly eyes Florida governorship as a Democrat

Original: David Jolly thinks he can be the first Democratic Governor of Florida this century

Former Republican congressman David Jolly says he believes he can become the first Democratic governor of Florida this century. Jolly, who left the GOP and joined the Democrats, is weighing or launching a run in the 2026 race to succeed term-limited Ron DeSantis. Florida has not elected a Democratic governor since 1994, and his bid would test whether the state's recent rightward shift can be reversed.

Why now: Jolly's party switch and potential candidacy in a closely watched 2026 race is drawing attention to Democrats' long odds in Florida
