DoJ Seeks Charges Against Ex-Trump Aide Cassidy Hutchinson

The US Department of Justice is seeking criminal charges against Cassidy Hutchinson, the former Trump White House aide who provided key testimony about the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. Hutchinson, a star witness before the January 6 committee, previously gave a dramatic account of Trump's conduct on the day of the riot. Critics see the move as retaliation against a witness, while officials have not detailed the charges being sought.
Why now: Hutchinson was the most prominent whistleblower from Trump's inner circle, so a Justice Department effort to charge her is being read by many as politically charged retaliation.
