IMSS workers protest over 2.9% wage increase
Original: instituto mexicano del seguro social
Workers and retirees of Mexico's social security institute (IMSS) are holding protests in Tlaxcala and Morelos against a 2.9% salary increase they consider insufficient. Medical and administrative staff are demanding a bigger raise amid rising living costs. The unrest comes as new figures show formal employment grew just 0.6% in September while the number of employers fell, adding to concerns about the labour market.
Why now: IMSS staff across several Mexican states are mobilising against a pay rise seen as too low, amid weak formal employment figures.
