Ukrainian drones hit Yandex data centers, knock out top supercomputers
Original: Ukrainian drones hit Russia's Yandex data centers housing two top supercomputers
Ukrainian drone strikes struck Yandex data center facilities in Russia that housed two of the country's most powerful supercomputers, triggering a major outage of the company's services. The strike is being described as a retaliatory action and marks a rare case of the war directly hitting Russia's tech infrastructure, with the loss of top-tier computing capacity likely to disrupt Yandex's search and AI operations.
Why now: A drone strike on major civilian tech infrastructure causing a major outage is newsworthy in both tech and war coverage.
