Hegseth Calls for Public Viewing of Firing Squad Execution

Original: Hegseth Wants Public to Watch First Firing Squad Execution Since WWII

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has proposed that the public be allowed to witness the execution of Maj. Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, by firing squad. It would be the first US firing squad execution since World War II. The New Republic reported the call, which has drawn attention to the death penalty's visibility and military justice.

Why now: A senior official's call for a public firing squad execution is an unusual and controversial death penalty proposal.
