Trump administration weighs using ships for mass deportations
Original: Trump administration weighs deportation ships
The Trump administration is reportedly considering using military-style vessels to transport deported migrants as it seeks to expand removal operations beyond available aircraft capacity. Officials have floated ship-based transport as a way to move larger numbers of people at lower cost. Critics call the idea inhumane and reminiscent of historical forced voyages, while supporters argue it is a practical logistics solution to immigration enforcement.
Why now: The reported plan is a dramatic escalation of deportation methods, drawing strong reactions from both critics and supporters of the administration's immigration policy.
