Pentagon to livestream firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter

Original: Pentagon to livestream military execution of Ft Hood shooter

The Pentagon says the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the US Army major convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will be livestreamed. Hasan was sentenced to death by a military court, and the execution will be carried out by firing squad, an unusual method that has drawn attention on its own. Commenters are debating the precedent of a publicly broadcast military execution and what it means for transparency in the death penalty process.

Why now: The announcement of the first livestreamed US military execution, by firing squad, is an unprecedented and controversial move.
