Syria has called for an independent investigation into the sinking of a ship in the Black Sea, according to a Reuters report by Kinda Makieh and colleagues. The demand comes amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, where shipping in the Black Sea has been repeatedly affected by the conflict. The sinking has drawn international attention, with questions over the vessel's fate and responsibility remaining unresolved.
Why now: The sinking occurred in the Black Sea, where the Russia-Ukraine war has made maritime incidents politically charged.
